Welcome to the fabulous journey through the belly of an alpaca!

Get ready to discover the wonders of its digestive system in the blink of an eye.

We love creativity and sharing everything about alpacas, which is why we have prepared a small diagram to quickly illustrate the magic that happens in this sacred animal, exploring the digestive system of alpacas!

We aim to introduce these majestic animals and we are confident that you will even fall in love with their little droppings! Enjoy reading.

First, we have the Rumen C1*, the first step of this adventure! It's the place where fermentation is in full swing. Imagine a party in a gastronomic club where plant materials are transformed into a delicious soup through microbial digestion.

Next is the Reticulum C2*, our stomach detective! With its magnifying glass, it sorts partially digested food, separating the large pieces from the smaller ones. It knows exactly where each piece should go.

Then comes the Omasum C3*, the master of hydration! Nothing escapes its notice. It recovers lost water and controls the passage of food to the next stage. A hydration hero, taking care of everything!

Now, it's time for the small intestine, the land of nutrients! Here, in the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum, enzymes and bile work wonders. They break down and absorb all the delicious nutrients. It's the realm of assimilation, where every bite is precious.

Let's not forget about the large intestine, the cecum, and the colon! This is where water is reclaimed, and the last remnants of digestion are broken down. It's an intestinal recycling plant, doing a fantastic job.

And finally, the little wonders that are alpaca droppings! These small, dry, and odorless pellets are a true masterpiece of water conservation in arid habitats. Alpacas are true experts in managing their business!

*Note: The labels C1, C2, and C3 refer to the different compartments of the alpaca's stomach.
