“ Long ago, the hands of the farmers and the artisans cultivated and shaped every object of the daily life. There were no brands, but still every product was imprinted with their names, with their lives.
Have you ever wondered what happened to make your life the way it is?
The whirlwind of life interrupts this question from being asked when we enter supermarkets, shopping malls and see one-click shopping offers. We have dehumanized people's work and reduced them to products without realizing that this movement has also reduced us to only consumers.
As a designer, my soul and creativity suffered a great deal from this development. Subsequently, I too stopped asking myself these question for a time. I worked with fabrics at below market prices in order to increase profitability, to earn a living, pay my rent and feed my household. I didn't ask how these materials had such low prices, who processed them, who made them. I was not yet aware that the answers could provide me with a new form of reward.
However, an unexpected invitation for a journey suddenly stopped my life for a moment. I had previously worked with alpaca wool yarns, but I had never seen it in its raw shape of form. Nor did I know the women who with their hands, hold the task of passing on the ancestral tradition of spinning the three types of alpaca fibers.
Without knowing it yet, the seed of Casa Poma was planted during this trip in the highlands of Peru. I breathed the same pure, icy air as the alpacas. I listened with admiration to the legends told to me by the women who spun the wool into threads. But I also became aware of the poverty that impacts these women, as well as the value of their work being ignored on international markets. It was then that I understood that Casa Poma would be our chance to change the rules:
Casa Poma guarantees a fair price with a sustainable and local economic model, decided in cooperation with the artisan women of Peru. Casa Poma represents the pride and pleasure of the women in Puno, as their work is finally recognized for its fair value.
Casa Poma is the voice of these women and the recognition of the culture they have created. Starting from the caretaking of the pasture fields for the alpacas grazing, always staying in sync with the laws of nature. With the wool fibers that they so skillfully transform by hand spinning before the yarn is carefully selected to create the artisanal fabric, that finally is assembled into a high quality garment.
Casa Poma is a bridge between Puno and Paris. A connection that allows us to know where these garments comes from, contrasting the ongoing pulse of fleeting fashion. Casa Poma is the harmony between tradition and modernity. You don't just wear a garment; you wear a culture. And culture escapes time. We are not fashion, we are design. Timeless design.
Casa Poma was created by a family of 84 women, who now found you - and now became 85. We want to connect you to the Andean woman who designs your piece of freedom, to highlight the strength that accompanies your sensuality, and the courage that drives your joy. When you open your wardrobe, we want you to choose us for that special day because Casa Poma represents our 85 success stories. Casa Poma will always be with you. And you with us. Always.”
