The fiber of the Peruvian baby alpaca is not a wool like the others

We don’t mean only by its technical thermal insulation, its incredible softness and lightness, or its hypo allergenic properties. Its uniqueness is also derived from the connection between the alpaca and their Andean caretakers in over 4000 metres altitude, preserving ancestral heritage, culture and balance with Pachamama (Mother Earth) in a parallel universe.

Where it all began…

The Andean legends state that alpacas were given by the Gods as a gift to the people in the mountains of Ausangate in Peru. In order for them to stay in the mountains, they had to be treated with love and respect. Alpacas are considered sacred animals for the Andean communities since they are their source of heat and income, their connection with their ancestors - the alpacas are their mountain sisters & brothers.

The work with the artisanal knit is a dialogue between the craftsman and the alpaca fiber. It’s through celebrating these ancestral processes that Casa Poma is offering a unique product and giving the artisan women a new platform to share their talent.

Thanks to this heritage we can give back a sensory connection in a digital world disconnected from real sensations and values.

The artisanal knit has crossed time and space. It is able to transmit a feeling and protect nature and us at the same time. It is able to emancipate women, and nourish us spiritually.

Celebrate the Alpaca’s of Peru, celebrate its warrior women!

“The alpaca is an inheritance from my ancestors and they are like our sisters who we share every day, the sustenance of my home, we live on its fiber, it gives us food, clothing, education and security.” Herminia Perca
